⭐friday 26th june - inset day - SCHOOL CLOSED ⭐

school news

Super Year 6 

We would like to say a huge well done to our amazing Year 6 pupils who have spent this week doing their SATs. 

They have worked so hard in the lead up to this week, and have been increadibly resilient throughout. We could not be prouder of them for all they have achieved. 

As a reward for their hard work this week, the class have been on a well earned outing to Hengrove Park today, followed by McDonalds for lunch!! 

Whilst the hard work is mostly done, the children still have lots to learn as they begin their transition to secondary school. We hope you will join us in congratulating them on their hard work this week and wishing the best for the coming weeks and months.

Class Photos 

On Tuesday 19th May, our school photographer will be in to take class photos. Please can parents/carers make sure that children are in full uniform on this day. 

The photographer will also be taking individual photographs of new nursery children, and final photographs of our soon to be Leavers from Year 6. 

Breakfast Club 

Please can we politely remind parents that all children attending Breakfast Club must be booked in via the Arbor App. 

With this in mind, please also be reminded that children should not be left unattended at the Breakfast Club doors (with the exception of pupils in KS2 who walk by themselves). Please ensure that you are walking your child to the doors to be received by staff - until children are inside the school building, they are the responsibilty of their parents and carers.               Parents should also not be stopping in the road to let children exit vehicles and walk to the door alone. 

Thank you in advance for your ongoing co-operation with this matter. 

NURSERY CLASS NEWS

The weather may have been all over the place this week, the children however, have been little rays of sunshine. 

 

They firstly welcomed a new child to the nursery with open arms and have made her first week extremely comforting and successful. Afia in particular has been wonderful with our new child, showing her how to use the bikes, playing in the mud kitchen together and generally being kind throughout the session. Big thank you to Afia for how amazing she has been this week!

 

Alongside welcoming new children, the class has been learning about rhyming words. They have heard the story, Oi Duck-billed Platypus and using lots of activities to support their learning of what makes a rhyming pair. During carpet time, the children have helped each other to successfully find rhyming partners through pictures and even suggest rhyming words through our rhyming song. 

 

The class also baked bread for their Wednesday toast snack this week. They made soda bread, which was extremely yummy. They deserved their handmade treat after PE to which they focused on whole body movements. They had to crawl up one line of chairs and then army crawl up another line. Both lines had tape between the chair pairs with the challenge being to not break the tape. Some children did this task beautifully, others needed a helpful hand on their head or legs to remind them to keep their head and bums down whilst doing the army crawl.

 

For maths the children have been hunting for shapes in their environment. At first the listened to the shapes song, naming and identifying basic shapes. Afterwards, in small groups, they went into the class and found shapes through the resources. The cake slices were triangles, plates are circles, the blocks are rectangles etc. This game carried through into their general conversations throughout the day, especially lunchtime in which the children were comparing lunch box and water bottle shapes. Their discussions were very enraged and excitable - it was fab to hear.

 

Within RE the children learned of The Early Church and why we use the sign of a fish. They found out that it began as a secret sign when people could not learn of God and Catholicism like we can today. They were shown how people would make a curved line in the dirt/ sand with their feet and if the other person also practised the religion, the would make the same line that connected at one end and flared out at the other. The shape ended looking like a fish and that is where the symbolism came from. Miss Dale showed the children how this would happen through a whiteboard and pen on the floor. Safe to say, the children were fascinated but more shocked that phones, televisions, indoor toilets and McDonald's did not exist back then. They followed up their learning by decorating and painting fish with watercolours to display on their RE wall.  

 

Lastly, the children used their previous learning to paint a vase of flowers. They were shown the Van Gogh sunflowers and given the opportunity to paint pictures of real life flowers. Each piece is unique and colourful with each child being extremely proud of their finished piece. Great work to finalise the sunflower life cycle learning. Though they still have the responsibility of the flowers in the garden and will be taking care of the plants over the next few months too.

Awards & celebrations

There are no Head Teacher Awards this week as we will not be having Celebration Assembly on Monday. 

Gospel Values 

As well as Headteachers awards, and reward in class, children at CTK can also earn 'leaves' for demonstrating our Gospel Values outside of the classroom. These leaves are added to the Tree in our foyer, which grows more and more throughout the school year...

The Wednesday Word

The Wednesday Word is a special publication created to connect home, school and parish. 

Every Wednesday a ‘word’, inspired by the coming Sunday’s Gospel, will be suggested for families to talk about in the home. The Wednesday Word is structured around the Sunday Gospel, because evidence shows that Gospel values really do help family relationships to thrive.
