Upcoming Changes to After School Clubs
Please be aware we have some upcoming changes to our After School Club provision due to staff training:
Monday 16th & Tuesday 17th June 2025 - NO CHILL TIME KLUB or CHOIR
All children must be collected at the usual time of 3.20pm
Ball Skills and Gardening Club will continue to run on Tuesday 17th, however all children must be collected at 4pm.
CTK Buddy Bench
In a recent meeting our school councillors proposed the idea of a 'buddy bench.'
They decided that it would be a good idea to have a bench in our playground that children can sit on if they ever feel lonely or have no-one to play with - it shows the adults and all of the other children that a child is in need of a friend or a 'buddy'.
The school councillors will be on hand daily to help anyone sitting on the bench to find a friend to talk to or play with.
Buddy benches are instrumental in teaching children valuable social skills; promoting understanding, patience and the ability to recognise and respond to the needs of others. We are grateful to the school council for coming up with this great initiative.
School Carpark
As you know, children in Years 3, 4 & 5 leave the building through our car park at the end of the school day.
We would like to take this opportunity to politely ask parents to ensure younger children, who may be waiting with them in the car park, are supervised and not being allowed to run in between the parked cars, or ride scooter and bikes around near vehicles.
We have recently had reports of damage to cars caused by this, which as you can imagine is upsetting for our staff and visitors.
We look forward to seeing this issue resolved and thank parents for their support with this.
Family Hub Navigators
At next Friday's Coffee Morning (Friday 20th June) we will be joined by members of the Bristol Family Hubs Team.
The team will be in to offer signposting support to families across a range of areas including debt advice, food support, school applications, SEN support and more!
If you would like to pop along and see them, Coffee Morning will be running from 9.00 - 9.30am as usual - please come along!
Welcome to the 'Pods'
You may have heard from your children recently that there's been lots of building work going on around school over the last few terms.
The works are very nearly complete, but our brand new 'pods' are now up and running!
Our Room 4 pod is a new work space that will be used for learning and meetings throughout the school day. Some children have already had chance to use the space, for their Times Table and Phonics Checks...
Our Room 7 Pod is a more relaxed space.
As well as being a great extention to Chill Time Klub space, the room will also be used to support pupil wellbeing, as a space for them to use should they need to calm down, have some breathing space, or seek support from adults.
Collecting Children
Please can we politely remind parents, that if someone else is due to be collecting your child from school, you MUST let us know.
If an unknown adult arrives to collect your child and we have not been informed, we will not release them until we have made contact with you.
Whilst we understand that this may cause some inconvenience, the safeguarding of our pupils is our highest priority and we're sure you'll agree that being delayed while staff confirm arrangements is far better than sending a child home with a potential stranger!
With this in mind, we would also like to direct parents to our 'Separated Parents Policy.'
We understand that navigating arrangements can sometimes be tricky when families are separated, and this policy outlines how we manage such arrangements, and the level of input we are able to have to support parents with this.
We would like to thank parents and carers for their ongoing support with these issues and if you have any questions regarding this please do not hesitate to contact us.
If your child has received a Head Teachers award this week, you are welcome to join us for Celebration Assesmbly on Monday to help them celebrate as they are awarded their certificate. Please arrive at school at 2.40pm ready for assembly to start at 2.45pm

Week two of the final term and all our children have certainly found their feet. If you walk past the nursery during the day, you'll probably hear lots of happy screams and giggles from all of our children. Their combined noise is something that cannot be missed.
Monday saw the children doing a pinwheel craft, that challenged their fine motor skills and gave them huge senses of accomplishment afterwards. Their beaming faces were wonderful to see.
They have been doing lots of maths and investigation work this week. Outside the children have had bottles and cardboard tubes attached to string. All week they have been pushing and pulling the items along the string to see how fast they can move. Each time they challenged themselves to make the items go faster, or race others.
Pre-nursery have been looking at numbers 1 and 2. They organised lots of manipulatives into the correct numberblock buckets and have been showing Mrs Sofia lots of versions of one and two in their small group work.
Wednesday's PE lessons saw two groups. One used their hand-eye coordination to shoot balls into different hoops, some on the floor, some were basketball hoops. The other group went onto the grass in the big playground and learned how to play tag. By the end of the session, they grasped the concept of the 'it' person changing with each tag.
In between all this work, the children have been exploring different crafts, the bible story of Paul and learning new songs. Their current song to learn is 'My Lighthouse'. Miss Dale is teaching them the simpler actions to the song in class.
With only five weeks left of the school year, lots of changes and transition work is happening within the nursery to prepare the children. Our nursery children who are moving into various reception classes have had information packs go home this week and will start having transition sessions over the coming weeks too. They have also had phase 1 reading books to take home to help them learn responsibility for school books and reading at home, but also lessen the transition into reception for September too. More information will follow as to any upcoming transitions too.
It was Nathan's birthday this week and despite the rain, it was a lovely day. Everyone appreciated the cake he brought in to share, and they all sand him happy birthday before he blew out the candles.
We hope you have a lovely weekend,
Miss Dale and The Nursery Team
Filwood in Motion - Writ Large
A few weeks ago we shared with you the first in a series of podcasts by our neighbours up at Filwood in Motion.
There is now a new edition of the podcast and this time it features some of our pupils sharing their experiences of growing up in Knowle West.
You can view some of the conversation on a new billboard on Filwood Broadway, and you can listen to the whole thing at https://filwood-in-motion.com/writ-large
