Memorial Mass
On Friday 4th October, we will be joined by Father Matt Anscombe from the St Bernadette parish to celebrate the life of Father Michael.
Father Michael was a muched loved member of our school and church community, and as such, everyone is welcome to join us for this special memorial mass.
The service will take place in the school hall at 9.30am and we would like to ask that all those attending arrive in good time to be seated.
School Office
Please be aware that the school office will have limited staff from Mon-Wednesday next week, so we would like to remind you of the following:
Please utilise the school absence line, School Gateway or school email if your child will not be attending school - these messages will continue to be picked up as normal and it is not necessary to speak to a member of staff to report absences.
Please remember to book into clubs using the School Gateway app before 12noon each day. Please only call the office to make bookings if absolutely necessary.
Please try to avoid coming in to the office unless there is an urgent concern that cannot be resolved by staff on the doors at the beginning of the school day.
We will aim to answer phone calls as promptly as possible, however to support our staff over these days we would appreciate that calls are only made to school if there is an urgent requirement.
We thank you for your patience over the coming days.
Raising Concerns
Incidents that happen within the classroom or on the playground are most often dealt with by the children's own class teachers. This means that should children bring these incidents or issues home, their class teachers are usually the most appropraite person to talk to should you have any concerns or questions.
Please can we remind parents that should they have a concern regarding something that has happened within the school day, it's important that these concerns be addressed with their child's class teacher, or cover class teacher, in the first instance.
Thank you for your ongoing support with this matter.
The Big Draw
This Autumn, pupils are being invited to take part in Aardman Animations' Big Draw.
Children have been given all of the competition information this afternoon, and there are lot's of exciting prizes up for grabs!
We will be collecting entries over the next few weeks so please encourage your child to take part!
Breakfast Club
As you know, we currently run a Breakfast Club that is open to all children across the school, including our Nursery pupils.
Breakfast Club runs from 8am daily and not only gives children a chance to enjoy a healthy breakfast with friends, it also supports attendance, ensuring children are in school on time ready to start the school day.
For the next few weeks, we will be offering free sessions for each year group, so children can see what Breakfast Club has to offer!
We will start with a free session for all Year 6 pupils on Wednesday 2nd October.
There is no need to book these free sessions, children are welcome to just turn up, provided they arrive before 8.20am when the doors will close.
We look forward to seeing lots of families using these sessions, and hopefully attending Breakfast Club more regularly.
Parking Issues
It is with great disappointment we have to once again remind parents about inappropriate parking outside of the school.
Despite numerous reminders,, we still have parents parking on zig-zag lines, mounting kerbs, and stopping dangerously in the road.
This is is an ongoing and serious concern, and we cannot stress enough how dangerous parking & stopping in this way is.
There is ample space, both on Filwood Broadway and in the streets surrounding school, where parents can safely park and walk children in to school.
We would also like to ask that parents do not try to U-turn in the road outside of school during drop-off and pick-up times - this type of manoeuver causes significat traffic to back up around the school area, which can be dangerous that these times of the day.
Please be aware that should you be caught parking or stopping in a dangerous manner, your details may be passed to our local policing team.
We hope that going forward, we will have to issue less of these reminders, and parents will continue to support us in keeping our children, and all pedestrians safe outside of our school.
Pupil Flu Vaccinations
This week our School Nurse Team came in to administer flu vaccinations to some of our pupils. We are very pleased to share with you that the team reported that our children were both well behaved and extremely polite!!
If your child missed out on the opportunity to have the vaccination at school, there will be opportunity in the coming weeks to book into a follow-up clinic that the School Nurse Team will be running within the community. We will share details of these clinics as soon as they are available.
You can also book your child's vaccination through your GP surgery.
COMMUNITy
Construction Works - Filwood Broadway
Building works to the former cinema site on Filwood Broadway will be starting on Monday 30th September.
We have had information from Bristol City Council regarding the works, and we are happy to say that there should be very little disruption to the school.
The hours of construction will be from 8am - 6pm, so there may be a slight increase in traffic during the beginning and end of the working day. With this in mind we do ask that parents remain vigilant when moving around the area, especially if dropping children into Breakfast Club.
The works are planned to continue for a considerable amount of time, but we look forward to seeing the exciting things happening within our community.

AWARDS & celebrations
There will be no celebration assembly on Monday as children will be practicing their special hymns ready for our special mass next Friday.
Head Teacher awards will resume as normal next week.
Remarkable Readers
As you know, Bristol Libraries hosted the 'Marvellous Makers' Summer Reading Challenge earlier this year. A number of children took part in the challenge, and received a certificate and medal for all of their great summer reading.
In Monday's assembly, the children shared their certificates with us and we joined them in celebrating their success!
Congratulations to Rose, Fritzhie, Michelle U, Vicky, Lily M, Deljin, Alex, Victoria and Michelle Z for being such fantastic readers!
ATTENDANCE
Attendance Champions
BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Year 2 who have achieved 99% Attendance for the second week running!
As we have Mass next Friday, their non-uniform day will roll over to the following week - Children are welcome to come into school in their own clothes on Friday 11th October.
Remember, all classes have the opportunity to earn themselves a non-uniform day - all they need to do is be in school on time, every day!!
Lateness
Doors are open for children to come in to school from 8.40am and children should be in school ready for registration by 8.50am.
Children arriving after 9.00am will recieve late mark and those who arrive after 9.20am will recieve an unauthorised mark for the morning session. Multiple occurances of lateness can have a negative effect on your child's overall attendance and in some cases may result in a penalty notice (fine).
Breakfast Club is available to all pupils from 8.00am (charged at £1 per day for children R-Y6 and £3 for Nursery) and is a great way to ensure children are in school on time, and ready for the school day.
