Exploring the Slopes
On Wednesday, Year 4 had a great time visiting the Northern Slopes. The children met with staff from the Bristol and Avon Rivers Trust, who taught them how to identify Bristol's main rivers on a map. They also had a go at listening out for different songbirds that nest in the area!
The highlight of the visit was river dipping, where they found larvae, tiny shrimp, and other creatures that form a vital part of the river habitat.

Over the last few terms, Year 5 have been taking part in weekly drumming lessons with Bristol Beacon.
As their sessions are coming to an end soon, we'd like to invite parents in to a special performance so the children can share everything they've learnt.
The performance will take place on Friday 20th March at 2.45pm. Please arrive in good time to be seated.
Headlice
Please be aware we have had reports of headlice in some classes across the school.
If you notice that your child has head lice, please treat accordingly to avoid them spreading.
Whilst head lice are not dangerous, they can cause serious itching which can be a distraction and are not very pleasant.
For more information on head lice and how to treat them visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/
Even with the mixed weather we have had this week, the children have been absolutely fabulous!
They are currently learning of the life cycle of a frog, among many other things.
We have read stories, done crafts and had discussions around frogs. The are earning of four stages....frogspawn to tadpole to froglet to frog.
Next week, with the weather hoping to be a little nicer, we are aiming to take the children to the pond and collect some frog spawn but to also see the habitat frogs grow and live within.
The other learning has been surrounding the story of The Good Samaritan. They have heard, watched, acted out and discussed the story, opting for the conclusion that we must make good choices and help our friends. The children gave answers about sharing, using kind hands/ words, helping their friends when they are stuck or hurt and making their friends happy. The awareness of your children regarding their emotions and the emotions of the people around them is wonderful to see/ hear.
On Wednesday, the children made salty potato cubes. Some children used child safe equipment to peel and chop the potatoes into chunks, other children were tasked with flavouring the potatoes to cook. At the end of the day, the children took the potatoes home in cups as a snack. Some children came back the next day saying how they really enjoyed them, other said how the potatoes promptly found the bin. The honesty of our children does make us laugh sometimes.
The rest of the week the children have been building their knowledge of numbers. Such as there are two groups of 3 in six, or three groups of two.
Simple addition with:
2+2=4
3+3=6
2+3=5
Some children do this through recognition of the numerals, others use their subitising to put the two numbers together and find the answer.
They are also starting to explore sounds in words. Miss Dale would say how she is thinking of a letter and write it on the board. The children would then point to the child/ children whose name starts with the letter. Afterwards everyone would clap the name and say the number of syllables, followed by counting and saying the sounds in the name too. The children are certainly developing a good phonemic awareness and are recognising letter/ letter sounds quite often.
You should all be very proud of the wonderful young people your children are becoming, they are all very caring, and considerate....with some cheekiness thrown in. Every child is developing well and they are all unique and wonderful additions to our nursery and whole school community.
Have a lovely, restful weekend,
Miss Dale and the Nursery Team
The Wednesday Word
The Wednesday Word is a special publication created to connect home, school and parish.
Every Wednesday a ‘word’, inspired by the coming Sunday’s Gospel, will be suggested for families to talk about in the home. The Wednesday Word is structured around the Sunday Gospel, because evidence shows that Gospel values really do help family relationships to thrive.

It's been another fantastic Friday of Fundraising!
A big big thank you to everyone who sent their children in with spare change for the Penny Trail this morning!
The children had a fantastic time laying the trail around the school hall - it wasn't as much fun picking it up again! All the pennies will be added to our running total and we will let you know the total amount raised at the start of Term 5.
Next week we continue our fundraising efforts with something a little bit sporty...
As part of our Lenten fundraising, Mr Condon will be running his very own raffle!
In the window of his office, is a jar of his famous HOME MADE pickled onions! For a 50p donation, children can have a chance to guess the amount of onions in the jar! The winning guess will win a large easter egg (or the jar of pickled onions if they really want them!!)
Children wishing to take part please speak to Mr Condon
