⭐ inset days - 2nd & 3rd september 2024⭐
ctk: a year in review
We have had another wonderful year at School of Christ the King, and it has been a pleasure teaching and growing with each and every one of our pupils.
This year the children have had the opportunity to take part in lots of exciting experiences - from our camps for years 3, 4, 5 and 6 in September to being involved in the planning of the new library in the Filwood Community Centre - with Ofsted recognising the achievements of our children and the quality of education and care. We look forward to being able to offer many more experiences like these next year.
As well as our off site visits, we've seen some fantastic learning within school, and are incredibly proud of the achievements and the progress the children have made this year with really positive results across the school this year.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of our families and members of the community who have continued to support us this year, we look forward to building these relationships further into next academic year.
Please enjoy our CTK Highlights 23/24 as we wish you a happy and safe summer break...

Summer Reading Challenge 2024
The Reading Agency have announced this year's Summer Reading Challenge - Marvellous Makers!
The theme has been developed in partnership with 'Create' a leading charity bringing the creative arts to those who need it most. This year's challenge aims to fire up children's imaginations and unleash storytelling and creativity through the power of reading.
The annual challenge is delivered in partnership with public libraries and it's free to take part. From July to September, children taking part in 'Marvellous Makers' can discover new stories and explore their creativity - from junk modelling to craft to drawing and painting.
How to take part
Children can visit their local library and pick up a free folder and stickers and then read at least 6 library books before the challenge ends on 7th September. The reward at the end of the challenge is a brilliant Summer Reading Challenge medal!
Children and families can also take part online, by visiting summerreadingchallenge.org.uk/
Time to say goodbye...
As we're sure many of you already know, this week we will be saying goodbye to two members of the CTK Family - Miss Owers and Miss Griffiths.
Miss Owers joined our school as a Learning Mentor in 2021, and moved into her position as a teacher a year later. She has flourished in her teacher role has worked exceptionally hard in our Year 6 classes over the past 2 years, supporting them through both SATs and transition.
Not only is she leaving CTK, she is leaving the country! Miss Owers will be jetting off to Vietnam later this month to teach children there!
Miss Griffiths is also leaving the country - although not quite as far afield! She will be moving to Wales to start a brand new job!
Miss Griffiths has been with us since the end of 2020 when we began setting up our Nursery class. Our EYFS provision has gone from strength to strengh over the years and Miss Griffiths has worked tirelessly to create a caring and engaging space for the youngest members of our school.
Both Miss Owers and Miss Griffiths are inspirational teachers at opposite ends of the school and will be very much missed at CTK, but will be absolute assets to their new schools. We hope you will join us in wishing them all the best!
As well as saying goodbye to staff, we are also saying goodbye to our wonderful Year 6 class. We hope you will join us in wishing them the very best as they start theur Secondary School journeys.
It has been a pleasure to have them and watch them grow into the brilliant young people they are. We are incredibly proud of them and all of the successes they have had as part of the CTK family.

Diversity Celebration Day
On Tuesday, we held our first Diversity Celebration Day.
We are extremely lucky to have a school that is made up of so many different cultures and backgrounds, and children were invited to wear their cultural clothes in to share with each other.
The children have a fantastic day sharing food, stories and clothing from their individual cultures. We have also unveiled our new display, showing all the countries our school is made up of!
We are very proud to have such a diverse school, and to be able to share these things with our pupils and families.
A very warm welcome
Many of you may already know, we will have two new teachers joining us in September.
Miss Dale will be the new teacher in our Nursery Class.
Miss Kendall will be our new Year 4 teacher
They have both already been spending time in school and getting to know the children, and we look forward to having them here full time in the new school year. Please join us in wishing them a big CTK welcome!

reminders for september
Start Dates
Children return to school on Wednesday 4th September 2024 (excluding Reception Class who will have already received their staggered start dates)
Staff will be in school on Tuesday 3rd September should you have any questions or concerns before your child returns.
Incidents and issues
If your child has informed you of an issue they are having within school that you feel has not been resolved in class, please come in to school to discuss these issues with us so we can escalate where necessary and ensure your child is feeling happy and safe at school.
Please do not discuss issues with parents of other children involved, or with other children directly. This often does not help to resolve things and often causes more undue stress to the children involved.
Thank you in advance for your co-operation with this matter
Dropping off/Picking Up
Please remember that as your child changes year group, their entrance/exit may have changed. Children in Reception, Year 1, Year 2 & Year 6 should enter and exit through the main reception doors. Children in Years 3, 4 & 5 should come and go through the back car park gates.
Please can we also remind parents and carers that they should not be entering the car park area before 8.30am - this is a high traffic area until this time.
School Meals
If your child is moving into Year 3, they will no longer be entitled to Univeral Free School Meals and will need to pay for school dinners. Meals are charged at £2.90 per day and can be paid for via the School Gateway App. If you think your child may be entitled to Free School meals, please visit https://www.bristol.gov.uk/residents/schools-learning-and-early-years/travel-and-free-school-meals/free-school-meals to apply during the summer holidays.
Lateness
The school day begins at 8.40am and children should be in school before the doors close at 8.50am.
Please be aware, that from September, unless we are informed that your child will be late for a specific reason, they will automatically be booked in for a school meal and will not get the full choice of lunch menu. School dinner numbers need to be with the school kitchen by 9.30am and lateness not only has an impact on their own learning, but also has an effect on the running of the school office and kitchen.
Late Collection
Please can we politely remind parents and carers the importance of collecting your child from school, and after school clubs on time. We have had a number of late collections this school year, and as a result we will be bringing our 'Charges and Remissions' policy infor force from September:
'Collecting children is the responsibility of the parent / career. Due to the impact this is having on staff, the school reserves the right to start charging after 5 occurrences (In a term) where a parent is late to collect their child / children by 10 minutes. After the 6th occurrence the charge will be £5.00. If after this there is a continuation of persistent lateness, the fee will increase by 10% on each subsequence late collection.'
To view the full 'Charges and Remissions' policy, please see the policies page of the school website

COMMUNITY
Square Food Foundation
This year, a number of our classes have been lucky enough to attend cooking sessions at Square Food Foundation.
This has been a fantastic opportunity for the children, and square food have been kind enough to share with us the recipe booklet they have used throughout the year.
The children have learned some fantastic skills at these sessions, and I'm sure they'd be happy to make a family meal or two over the summer!!
If you manage to do some cooking, Square Food Foundation would love to see the results, so you can email pictures of your food masterpieces to Lucy@squarefoodfoundation.co.uk
