Celebrating Culture
Year 2 were very lucky to have a group of parents visit their class recently to teach them about Nigeria. They learnt all about life in Nigeria, traditions, the variety of cultures and also managed to try a few typical snacks.
A huge thank you to the parents who gave up their time to help Year 2's learning- it was a special afternoon.
Brilliant Bakers
Last week, some of our KS2 pupils were joined by Square Food Foundation for a fantastic bread making workshop!
The children had the opportunity to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in to mixing, rolling and kneading their very own loaves!
It was great having Square Food Factory in to share this experience with our children, and we hope to work with them to provide more cooking opportunities to our children next school year.
Year 5's special delivery...
Y5 thought really hard about the CST values of Dignity and Rights and Responsibilities, and they wrote their letters to our local MP about refugees having read 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' by Onjali Q Raúf
Yesterday, Year 5 received a special package, marked with the HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT emblem. The MP, Karyn Smith, had replied to all of the children individually, and had included a letter to Ms Wood...
Access to the school building
Please can we politely remind parents that they should not be coming into the school building when dropping their children off in the mornings.
Children should be dropped at their relevant doors and children will be greeted inside by staff. If you have any questions or would like to speak to a member of their child's class team, please speak with the office or the staff member on the door who will be happy to support you.
Whilst we understand that parents like to support their children settling in on a morning, having unknown adults in the building is a safeguarding and security issue and keeping our children safe is our utmost priority.
Thank you for your ongoing co-operation with this.
World Cup Viewing & Attendance
This week we allowed children to have a later start following England's (WINNING!) world cup game on Wednesday night!
All of the children who took advantage of the later start made it to school by the specified start time so we wanted to say a big thank you to parents for their co-operation with this.
England's next match takes place on Tuesday 23rd June, and as this game also has a late start, we will once again be offering a later start on Wednesday to those families who would like to stay up to watch!
Like this week, school will be open at normal time for those families who would like a normal start, but children will be able to come in any time up until 10.30am without it affecting their attendance.
We would however like to ask that if children will be arriving late on this day, that their lunches are booked by 9.30am on this day. Meal options for the day will be:
ROAST DINNER
SWEET POTATO PASTRY
JACKET POTATO
WRAP
You can book your childs meal ahead of time by calling the office, texting or email (you can do this ant time between now and 9.30am on Wednesday).
IF YOUR CHILD COMES IN LATE ON THIS DAY, AND WE HAVE NOT RECEIVED THEIR MEAL CHOICE, THEY WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE ORDERED A JACKET POTATO.
If your child has received a Head Teachers award this week, you are welcome to join us for Celebration Assesmbly on Monday to help them celebrate as they are awarded their certificate. Please arrive at school at 2.40pm ready for assembly to start at 2.45pm

Amongst all their other learning over the last two weeks, the children have worked super hard to build a Dr Seuss display outside the nursery classroom.
They crafted a Cat in the Hat hat, made a red and white paper chain, decorated hot air balloons, Lorax trufulla trees and designed arrows.
Each piece is part of the overall theme - Transitions.
The focus book has been 'Oh the places you'll go' with the children telling Miss Dale what they would like to be when they are older. Miss Dale wrote their future prospects on each child's hot air balloon. We have lots of police, builders, princesses, superheroes and a big dinosaur.
On the arrows, the children explored their dream places to go, though they may not 'real', we can create these places with our imaginations.
The children also explored their favourite memories and things to do in the nursery, plus they worked together to write questions for their next teachers, most questions are wanting to check that their next class will be fun and exciting like the nursery.
The whole display has been crafted by the children with the support of the teachers and this is to support the children's transition into reception or for those staying in the nursery for another year who will say bye to some friends and welcome new ones instead.
On top of their crafting, questioning and imaginative dreaming, the children have been watching parts of The Lorax each day during snack. Miss Dale stops at different parts and questions the children on who they think and character may be or what they think will happen next. The children have had some thought provoking answers and have used/ developed some new vocabulary to aid their conversations and sentence building.
Though it has been a high-energy and chaotic week, the children have been wonderful, understanding and caring.
We hope you have a restful weekend,
Miss Dale and the Nursery Team
