STEM Explorers
Our Year 3 class have had such an amazing time discovering We the Curious today!
They had the opportunity to take part in lots of experiments and investigations and even got to take part in a live science show about forces called 'Launch It!'
The children especially loved having the chance to see the 3D planetarium show that told them all about the story of the stars!
Fantastic Footballers
Year 5 and 6 Football ended this week, with a clean sweep! Our boys in red had 5 wins in a row!! What a phenomenal achievement!
We would like to say thank you to all the parents and carers who came out to cheer the boys on, and an extra HUGE thanks to Mrs Sims who chaperoned and supported the boys for the 3 league sessions! We couldn't have done it without her dedication!
We look forward to Years 3 & 4 starting their games, as well as our newly kitted out girls!
Late Collections
Please can we politely remind parents and carers of the importance of collecting your child from school on time. The school day ends at 3.20pm and when children are not collected, this impacts on the time of our school staff.
Our Governing Body are currently looking at our current 'Charges and Remissions' which outlines charges that may be applied when children are collected late from school - we are hoping to have this ready to share with you before the start of Term 4.
To view the current 'Charges and Remissions' policy, please see the policies page of the school website
Thank you for your ongoing support with this issue.
Supervision of Children
This week we have had a number of children who have been dropped off at the front of the school building and left unsupervised until the doors have been opened.
Whilst this is not an issue for older children who may bring themselves to school, we are seeing an increased number of very young children being left unattended.
The school doors open at 8.40am, and unless booked into Breakfast Club, we cannot take responsibility for children who arrive before this time.
Of course, we would like to think it unlikely that children would come to any harm whilst waiting, the road outside of school does become very busy with both traffic and pedestrians at this time of day, so please ensure that you stay with your child until a staff member lets them into the school building.
We also understand that whilst drop-off arrangements are for parents to decide, we highly recommend that children in KS1 and lower KS2 are not sent to school alone, at this age it is highly unlikely that they have the tools to navigate busy roads or deal with other hazards they may encounter.
Upcoming Menu Change
To help celebrate the upcoming Lunar New Year, there will be a change to next Thursday's lunch menu...
This week the children had been learning all about Chinese New Year.
They have learned how it’s the year of the horse, red is the lucky colour and 4 is unlucky.
They designed dragon faces and then went on an impressive walk through and around the school as a Chinese dragon. The all walked holding some material in one long line with great teamwork. The dragon was very impressive to see coming through the school.
Afterwards, the children watched lion dance videos and had a go at recreating some of the lifts with the help of Miss Dale.
The nursery has now been decorated with the handmade lanterns, unique to each child, two impressive dragons - one made from material with a watercolour face, the other made from red paper chains. Both dragons were made by the children.
They have also been slowly learning 1-5 in Chinese, alongside using number tracing and symbol cards to recognise and draw the Chinese numbers too.
1 - ey
2 - err
3 - san
4 - shoo
5 - woo
In the water tray the children had rice noodles and pak choi to use and explore. We’ve had soups, spaghetti and all sorts made by the children through their use of imagination.
Alongside their learning of Chinese new year, the children have also been learning the Makaton signs for:
Good morning
Good afternoon
Drink
Play
Food
They have a growing wealth of knowledge of signs that are used throughout the day, everyday in nursery.
On Thursday; the children had the chance to dress up and share costumes of the people who help them. We had a variety of roles from mummy’s to builders to vets. The children used their learning of how God helped Jesus to feed the 5000 to think about and role play the people who help them in their lives. Great work everyone!!
We also have two superstars who received a headteachers award on Thursday afternoon! They worked with Miss Stacia and wrote
1+1 =2
2+2=4
All the way up to 10+10=20
Everyone was so proud of the two boys and all the hard work they do. Absolutely brilliant work by the both of them!
Ahead of the last week of term, the children are all super tired and have a cold of some sort, so we wish you a restful weekend ahead of the last week of term.
Miss Dale and the Nursery Team
If your child has received a Head Teachers award this week, you are welcome to join us for Celebration Assesmbly on Monday to help them celebrate as they are awarded their certificate. Please arrive at school at 2.40pm ready for assembly to start at 2.45pm

Chaplaincy Team News
One of the key missions of our Chaplaincy Team is helping others, especially those who are not as lucky as we are. Back in November they put this mission into action by supporting the Royal British Legion in their Poppy Appeal.
Today we have recieved a Certificate of Appreciation, letting us know that with the Chaplaincy Teams help, and donations from across the school, we raised £332.82!
The Wednesday Word
The Wednesday Word is a special publication created to connect home, school and parish.
Every Wednesday a ‘word’, inspired by the coming Sunday’s Gospel, will be suggested for families to talk about in the home. The Wednesday Word is structured around the Sunday Gospel, because evidence shows that Gospel values really do help family relationships to thrive.
