Physical education

At School of Christ the King, we teach two lessons of PE weekly from Nursery through to Year 6. We base our lessons on the Real PE scheme to deliver engaging, challenging lessons to build confidence in physical activity and team work. Through regular PE, the aim is that children are exposed to a variety of exercises and are encouraged to lead an active, healthy lifestyle. Developing skills in physical education aids emotional and thinking skills which can be translated through sports into daily life. We also teach children how to display good sportsmanship and be team players.

The weekly curriculum lessons are supplemented with extra-curricular sports experiences offered through after school clubs, participation in local sports tournaments and the annual school sports day.

Each term, classes focus on a specific skill which is practiced and developed through skill work and targeted games. The six terms are broken down into the following learning behaviours: Personal, Social, Cognitive, Creative, Physical and Health and Fitness. These learning behaviours are further split into achievable tasks to develop the fundamental movement skills that each child needs to progress and maintain to lead an active life.

The fundamental movement skills include:

girls netball

The girls were out representing CTK again, this time at a netball tournament. It was the first taste of competitive netball for most of the team so they did so well and have some pointers for our next outing! They developed throughout the afternoon and showed real progress in marking and moving down the court - well done!

Our CTK Swimming Team debut!

Our new swim team had a fantastic outing to Hengrove for a swimming gala. They we all stood out in smart bright red swim caps! There was some excellent swimming from all, and we even came away with some first and second place wins!
