Bristol Waste Recycling Workshops
This week, Years 1, 2, 3 and 5 were joined by colleagues from Bristol Waste for an exciting workshop.
The children had the opportunity to learn about recycling and where their waste goes once it's been collected by the bin men!
The children learnt about sorting their recycling, and the important impact recycling has on our planet.
We look forward to having more visitors in throughout the school year to share excting experiences and activities with the children.
Amazing Accomplishments
Many of our children take part in activities outside of school, and we love being able to share news with you when these activities bring forth fantastic achievements!
Lyla, Year 6, has been dancing her way up and down the country for some time now, and you may remember the shoutout we gave her back in June when her dance team won the UK National Championships in Bournemouth. Well, not satisfied with being winners in the UK alone, Lyla travelled to Paris last week to take part in the 'Future Cheer Brings it On' competition.
During the competition, not only did her team place 1st out of 7 teams, they were also the highest scoring team of the weekend which meant they were named Grand Champions of the entire event!
Following such a success, Lyla's next stop on her European dance adventure is likely to be in Barcelona! We hope you will join us in saying a huge well done for these achievements, and wishing her the best of luck for her future events!
Bringing the Outdoors In
In 2024, we reported that we had built a special outdoor learning area outside of our Year 2 classroom. Over the past year, the space has been a real blessing - allowing our Year 2 pupils additional room to learn and grow!
The only downside to the space, we found, was the weather! With the sideways rain and terrible wind we've had recently it meant we couldn't make the most of the space - but this week, we have completed some further work on the area, which means it's now usuable all year round - come rain or shine!

The children have all been working super hard this week.
On Monday, they had the pleasure of decorating the Christmas trees in the Nursery. They helped put the baubles on the trees and then used the tinsel to make the home corner and small world more festive too.
Reggie the Elf also payed them a visit, he was kind for his first day but has been up to mischief since!
On Tuesday, the children learned of Advent and what an Advent wreath looks like.
Miss Dale used paint to teach them of the wreath and as they counted each candle, she splatted the paint! Much to the children's excitement, when they mentioned the last candle to be lit on the wreath, the one for the birth of Jesus, the shaving foam flew EVERYWHERE and made a huge mess! Afterwards, the children painted their hands green to craft a wreath with hand prints!
Reggie the Elf turned the water tray into a chocolate mess on this day, too. He added cocoa powder and chopped carrots to the tray as well, much to everyone's fascination and excitement.
Wednesday was full of crafting! Nathan made many paper chains independently which are hanging across the front of the classroom, with the classes Christmas colouring hanging from them also.
It was also Josh's Birthday celebrations on this day. Josh chose to have a dance party, the class sang happy birthday and were all treated to party bags with cake and surprises to take home too.
Savannah is to be given special recognition. The girls chose to empty the home corner into the classroom for a picnic and Savannah cleaned up most of the mess afterwards. She put everything away carefully and neatly using the pictures for help. She has shown great responsibility and care for her classroom. She has demonstrated the school values and values within Catholic Social Teaching. (Rights and Responsibilities, Family and Community)
Preparations for the nativity are well underway, with the children helping to make decorations and getting used to their costumes for the play.
We have also decided to learn the Makaton signs for 'We Wish You A Merry Christmas'.
Please practise this at home if possible. We use the Singing Hands version on YouTube.
We are only teaching the children 'We wish you a merry Christmas' signs due to the speed of the song.
They are doing so well with their Makaton learning. Our signs for the last two week have been:
Yes
No
More
Pain
We hope you have a restful weekend,
Miss Dale and the Nursery Team
Attendance Champions
Unfortunately, none of our classes have managed over 99% attendance this week - lets try again next week!
Remember, all classes have the opportunity to earn themselves a non-uniform day - all they need to do is be in school on time, every day!
Absences for Illness
As is usual for this time of year, with the cold weather comes germs and we understand that sometimes children are too ill to attend school.
However we recommend looking at the following guidance if you are unsure about whether your child is well enough to come in: Should I keep my child off school?
Please be reminded that school always has a stock of Calpol, and can administer medication to pupils should they feel a little under the weather. Minor colds and coughs are normal childhood illnesses and should not be reasons to keep children away from school.
Please also be reminded that whilst children are welcome at school with minor illnesses, we cannot have them in school if they have suffered sickness or diarrhoea. Children should stay off of school and not return until there has been 48 hours since the last episode of illness.
There may be circumstances that we ask for medical evidence in order for us to authorise your child's absence - this may happen if the absence is for an extended period of time, or if there is a pattern of repeated illness, or if their attendance is below 92% due to other absences. If medical evidence is not provided, this may be recorded as an unauthorised absence which may result in a penalty notice (fine)
The Wednesday Word
The Wednesday Word is a special publication created to connect home, school and parish.
Every Wednesday a ‘word’, inspired by the coming Sunday’s Gospel, will be suggested for families to talk about in the home. The Wednesday Word is structured around the Sunday Gospel, because evidence shows that Gospel values really do help family relationships to thrive.
