Wonderful Writers
This week Year 1 have been practicing their letter writing skills and today, Mr Condon had a visit from Adonai and Laila who had produced some fantastic pieces of work!
They had both written a letter inviting a friend to join them for Mass and we can say for sure it would be hard to turn down such well written invitations!
Laila and Adonai both received a special Head Teacher sticker for their great work and we look forward to seeing, and sharing, more wonderful writing from our pupils soon!
Year 6 SATS - Monday 11th - Friday 15th May
Year 6 SATs will take place next week.
A Huge well done to all the Year 6s and the hard work they have put in over the last few weeks. They have all showed us their best effort and concentration. They've all done everything they can and now it's time to show off what they can do.
The timetable for the week is as follows:
Monday 11th May - English grammar, punctuation and spelling papers 1 (questions) and 2 (spelling)
Tuesday 12th May - English reading paper
Wednesday 13th May - Mathematics papers 1 (arithmetic) and 2 (reasoning)
Thursday 14th May - Mathematics paper 3 (reasoning)
This is a very important week for our pupils and it is essential that children attend school every day in order to sit their tests. Unless a child is unwell, children not attending school will not be able to sit these assessments, that they have worked so hard to prepare for.
A free breakfast will be available to all Year 6 children during this week so they are invited to join us in Breakfast Club from 8am to ensure they are in school on time and have a positive start to the day.

Year 6
Whole Class - For all their hard work and effort leading up to SATs week!
Though it has been a four day week, the children have packed in their normal energy and learning levels.
Tuesday kicked off with their language learning as we introduced Ni Hao and Ann-Yeong (Chinese and Korean). They recapped their previous learning with a few helpful prompts beforehand to check their knowledge and then added to their growing back of greetings in different languages.
Throughout this week we have been working on understanding longer and shorter. The children developed their knowledge through working together to stand in a line from longest/ tallest through to shortest. They had a few tricky moments when children were the same heights. A couple children noticed that neither child was longer or shorter than the other and adapted their language accordingly.
The class have now moved onto stage three in bucket time in which they take turns, extending their attention and changing the focus of their attention too. I.E taking their attention from the teacher and onto the child who is having a turn etc. Each time we do stage three bucket time, the children may or may not have a turn, this develops their understanding of sharing and waiting their turn. It also helps to develop their understanding of emotions and regulation when they may not have a turn and how they feel about it.
Further to their Maths and language learning, we celebrated Afia's birthday with dancing, singing and cake. The nursery children further practised their phonics knowledge around heard the first sound in a work. I.E the ;'s' sound in 'sun'. Whilst the pre-nursery children played listening games to help distinguish between different animals sounds.
The class have also planted some sunflower seeds and will be planting some more seeds next week too. This is to not only brighten up the end of the nursery area but to also support the children's learning of the lifecycle of a sunflower.
They current know that a sunflower grows in four steps:
1. the seed is planted in the soil
2. the roots grow downwards away from the sun and suck up the water
3. the stem grows towards the sun
4. the flower and leaves grow last
They also know that the energy the plant receives from the sun is turned into food to help the plant grow.
We hope you have a restful weekend,
Miss Dale and the Nursery Team
