Hockey Stars
On Thursday, Mrs Sims took some Year 5s and 6s to a Hockey Festival at Merchants' Academy Sports Centre.
It was an extremely hot morning, but the heat didn't stop the children from getting stuck in and having fun! They worked their socks off and played incredibly well as a team.
Mrs Sims said the children were an absolute joy to take!
Well done to all of the children took part. This was the children's first experience of hockey and they all did a fantastic job!
Special mention to our goal scorers, Toby (1), Bella (1), Justin (2), David (4) and Victor (1).
We look forward to taking more of our children to sporting events very soon!
Warm Weather
As the weather has been getting much warmer, we would like to remind parents to send their children into school prepared for the day's weather.
We strongly recommend that all children come to school wearing sun-cream and with a water bottle, which they can refill throughout the day as necessary.
We also ask that children bring some kind of hat to provide protection from the sun whilst on the playground. Please be reminded however that all items of clothing should be named to avoid items being lost.
Children can also bring sunglasses to wear out on the playground if they wish to. However please be aware that children will be responsible for taking care of their own glasses and school will not take responsbility if they should be lost or broken.
The sun has brought LOTS of energy this week. With lots of changes happening, and the children coming and going quite frequently throughout each day, whilst our newest children are settling in, everyone has dealt with the rapid transitions very well.
On Monday, the children explored the making table and were given free reign on how to make animal masks. They were allowed to use whatever materials or methods they wanted to craft a mask. They were very creative and put their learned, or developing skills into good practise.
Tuesday, the children learned about the Holy Spirit. The spoke about Jesus' feelings about going to Heaven to be with God. They extended their discussions to talk about how Jesus' friends may have felt too. They gave lots of insightful answers and really thought about the feelings of others. They used the colour monster feelings and colours to give clear answers. Following their carpet session, they had two main crafts. One was to help colour a cross that was covered in masking tape. After peeling off the tape, they had a beautiful cross to display on or RE window. Other children painted their hands like a fire to help create a class Holy Spirit. Both crafts are now proudly displayed in our classroom, by the Prayer table to allow for moments of reflection and will help build towards the children's developing understanding of the Catholic Faith this term.
In the afternoon, they also started planting some flowers to help brighten the area by the gate. It may look like soil right now, but eventually it will be full of beautiful flowers!
Wednesday was PE day! The children took part in one of two courses. Our pre-nursery course focused on different types of jumps and balances around our garden. The nursery course had the children following one-step instructions and different types of balances, whether they be moving or stood still.
Thursday was more relaxed. The children focused on recognising number. Our pre-nursery focused on recognising 1, whether it be the numeral or one dot, one snail, one finger. Our nursery children focused on subsisting 1-3. If you hear, 'three like Spider-man', at home, we use the phrase to help the children recognise three quickly, as they have been finding three quite tricky, so we have related it to their favourite super hero.
The children have also been learning lots of different ways to say hello.
They are learning:
Hello
Hello (sign)
Ni Hao
Bonjour
Konnichiwa
Ciao
Hola
Namaste
Jambo
Aloha
They may be able to tell you one or two of the ways to say hello at home.
Last weeks Friday experiment was lemonade reactions.
One had lemonade with a vitamin C tablet. One had lemonade and bicarbonate of soda.
Which one had the BIGGEST reaction?
The lemonade and bicarbonate of soda!
It was pretty cool, and it sparked lots of discussion about reactions and what it looked like.
