We the Curious
Year 3 had an amazing trip to We the Curious last Friday. The class loved having the freedom to explore, investigate and experiment.
The trip finished with a fantastic light show where the class had the chance to share their knowledge and see some cool tricks involving lasers and lights. They were very well behaved and were raving about the trip afterwards. Well done Year 3!
Year of Hope - Playground Pilgrimage
This year, we have been celebrating the Year of Hope, a jubilee celebration that was announced by the late Pope Francis in January.
On Wednesday, these celebrations were ended with a special pilgrimage around the school playground.
The children made their way around the playground to different stations offering them a moment of prayer and reflection. They also collected items from each station to make up a 'Pilgrims of Hope' gift bag.
Upcoming Club Changes
Tuesday 15th July - NO CLUBS
Friday 18th July - NO CLUBS
Please also be aware, that there will be no clubs running during the first week of the school year when we return in September.
Separated Parents Policy
As you know, families come in all shapes and sizes, and there's no exception to that at CTK.
Whilst we always strive to support our children and their families, sometimes, there is a limit to what we can be involved in, and as such we have a 'separated parents policy in place to explain to parents what we are able to support with should there be disputes amongst parents with regards to school.
You can access the policy here.
A Busy Week in Year 2
It's been a very busy week in Year 2 this week, with lots of visitors coming and going.
Their first visitors of the week were from our friends at The Matthew Tree Project who came in to talk to the children about what it means to be a good samaritan.
We have supported The Matthew Tree Project as a school of a number of years and they do a lot of good work for our community. If you are able to continue this support - they have shared with us a list of items that they are always in need of at the food bank...
Later this week, we were joined by some parents of Year 2 pupils, who came to talk to the class about life in Nigera, as part of their Geography topic.
It was great to hear about the culture, food and lifestyle of Nigeria and we cannot say a big enough thank you to the parents that gave up their time to join us!
Behaviour and positive handling
On occassion, children attending school can become overwhelmed and disregulated during the day, sometimes resulting in unsafe behaviour.
When incidents like this happen, our staff are trained to follow our behaviour policy to quickly resolve issues. Sometimes however, behaviour can escalate to a level that becomes dangerous to the child, their friends and staff. When dangerous situations occur, we may need to handle children to keep themselves and others safe.
Positive handling of children will only take place as a last resort, and will only be performed by a member of staff who has received formal training in how to do this safely. Incidents of staff having to use this training are extremely rare, and parents of children involved will always be informed. If such incidents take place then parents will be informed. If we assess that such retraint MAY be needed in advance, we will seek to inform parents so they understand what strategies would be put in place, HOWEVER the school DOES NOT need require parental permission to physically retrain - if it is needed as a last resort.
More information on our bahviour policy, including physical handling can be found here
Sports Day Thanks
A big thank you to all the parents and carers who attended our EYFS & KS1 Sports Day this morning.
It was great to see so many of you there, cheering on our children. You're cooperation and support made the morning a roaring success and we look forward to sharing lots of photos with you in next week's newsletter.
The second to last week of term has been busy with sports day practise, end of year crafts and lots of playing. Busy, busy and so this weeks newsletter will be shorter.
The children have been dealing with their upcoming transitions to new schools, our reception class or saying bye to friends as some of the children stay in nursery for another year. From this there has been lots of change in the nursery and the whole class have had a lot of mixed emotions, some happy, some sad, some unsure.
Yet, they have been using their lovely manners, Makaton and been very kind whilst playing together.
On Wednesday, some of the children had a mini picnic in the outside area....with the help of some pesky wasps! Some of the children were unbothered, some of he children were a little scared but everyone handled it very well. However we know for the future that outside picnics are a 'no' from the children, they prefer sitting to tables.
With next week being the last week, the children will be bringing home some special surprises on Wednesday as we know the last few days of term will see spotty attendance with the upcoming summer holidays.
We hope you have a restful but sunny weekend,
Miss Dale and the Nursery Team
