PSHE
what is pshe?
At School of Christ the King we use the Ten Ten scheme, an enriching, innovative and inspiring Christian faith-based scheme of work providing thorough resources to teach PSHE from Reception to Year 6.
As a subject, PSHE aims to provide children with the knowledge, skills and understanding to keep themselves happy, healthy and safe, to lead confident and independent lives, as well as to prepare them for future life and work.
Navigating our complex world can be challenging, and parents and teachers play an essential role in preparing children for the future. As such, PSHE aims to equip pupils to:
Take individual responsibility for their physical and mental wellbeing;
develop resilience, independence and responsibility;
develop the personal and social skills required to succeed in commerce and industry;
how to stay safe online;
understand the risks of drugs and alcohol: (in Upper KS2)
identify misleading information and be critical of misleading news or views they might encounter.
A Department of Education (DfE) evidence review highlighted the subject’s importance to children and young people’s wellbeing and knock-on effects on academic achievement, stating that ‘The evidence shows that personal, social, health and economic (PSHE) education can improve the physical and psychosocial well-being of pupils. A virtuous cycle can be achieved, whereby pupils with better health and well-being can achieve better academically, which in turn leads to greater success’
