school news

City of Bristol Brass Band

Today we were joined by the City of Bristol Brass Band for a special Christmas performance.

It was wonderful to be visited by such talented musicians, and the children really enjoyed hearing their Christmas favourites played by a live band!

Changes to after school clubs

Signature Sports Clubs - Ball Skills & Tag Rugby:

Please be aware that there will be no Signature Sports after school clubs next week. Ball Skills will resume after the Christmas break, however Tag Rugby has now come to an end and will be replaced by an alternative option (please see below)

Chill Time Klub:

A reminder that there will be no Chill Time Klub on Friday 15th December.

KS2 Hockey Club:

Hockey Club will be replacing Tag Rugby for KS2 pupils on a Wednesday after the Christmas break. If you would like to sign your child up to this club, please do so using the School Gateway App.

KS2 Art Club:

Art Club has now come to an end for children that have previously attended for the last two terms. If your child would like to attend for the next two terms, please speak to Miss Morse in the school office. Please be aware that there are a limited number of spaces available and priority will be given to children who have not previously attended.

 Parents' Group / Fundraising

In the new year we will be looking to put together a parents' group to support the school with future fundraising, and to aid in parent/school communication and relationships.

If you would be interested in joining, please speak to Miss Morse in the school office.

Advent Parade

This week marked the beginning of Advent, and after our assembly on Monday, we had a special parade through the corridor as we switched on our Christmas lights!

Dogs on Site

We have had a number of complaints recently about dogs on school site

Please can we politely remind parents and carers that no dogs (except guide dogs) are permitted on school site, this includes the car park area to the rear of the school.

Thank you for your on-going co-operation with this issue.

Behaviour at After School Clubs

Our after school clubs are an extention to the school day, and as such have the same behaviour expectations.

Most of our after school clubs are led by school staff who give up their own time to run them, and many of them are offered free of charge, so it's disheartening when children aren't respectul of staff or equipment at these sessions.

If your child attends a club, and displays poor behaviour, you may be asked to collect them early, and they may not be allowed to attend any further sessions.

Late Collection - Notice of Charges

Please can we politely remind parents and carers of the importance of collecting your child from school on time. We have had a number of late collections recently, and as a result we will be bringing our 'Charges and Remissions' policy into force from Term 3 onwards:

'Collecting children is the responsibility of the parent / career. Due to the impact this is having on staff, the school reserves the right to start charging after 5 occurrences (In a term) where a parent is late to collect their child / children by 10 minutes.  After the 6th occurrence the charge will be £5.00. If after this there is a continuation of persistent lateness, the fee will increase by 10% on each subsequence late collection.'

To view the full 'Charges and Remissions' policy, please see the policies page of the school website

ATTENDANCE

Reporting Absence

Please can we politely remind parents and carers about the importance of contacting school if your child is going to be off school for any reason.

There are a number of ways of reporting absence to the school office:

If your child is absent and we have not heard from you, our attendance team will make contact using all available contact numbers. If your child is off for a number of days without communication, we may conduct a home visit to establish a reason for absence.

Winter Illness

As is usual for this time of year, there are lots of bugs going around - if you are unsure whether your child is well enough to attend school, visit our support page 'If my child is unwell' for guidance on common childhood illness.

Holidays during term time - SATS WEEK 13th - 17th May 2024

As you are aware, we always request that families do not take time off for holidays during term time and this is especially important for children in Year 6 during SATs week. This year, SATs week will take place from Monday 13th May - Friday 17th May 2024.

Guidance from the Department for Education states that children will only have the opportunity to retake their SATs tests if they have been absent due to exceptional circumstances - this does not include holidays. Please ensure holidays are not booked during this week.
